Maintenance Operation by the GWDG

At first: Happy new year everybody :)

And here are already the first important PubMan information immediately at the start of our new year 2011:
Our hosting partner – the GWDG in Göttingen – informed us that they plan to perform some maintenance work either on Tuesday, January 11th during the afternoon/evening hours or on Wednesday, January 12th in the morning hours.
Unfortunately the GWDG is not able to give us a more concrete statement at the moment. As soon as we know the definite period for the intended maintenance operation we will inform you immediately.

With best wishes,
your PubMan support team

Maintenance Operation by the GWDG

Our hosting partner – the GWDG in Göttingen – informed us that they plan to perform complex works at their local power supply on Wednesday, November 17th.

For this reason, all PubMan services, especially the productive and the migration server will not be available from 6:00 A.M. until presumably 9:00 A.M. (CET)  on next Wednesday.

We are sorry for any inconveniences caused by this maintenance operation!

Good things come to those who wait!

It is done – the 6.1 release of PubMan finally is deployed and the system is completely functional again.

The new version includes a quite extensive set of new features and improvements as well as a far reaching update of the underlying core service.

Just to get an idea of the extent of efforts that were connected with this release, it might be interesting to take a look at the sheer number of modifications: Altogether we managed to implement 25 new features as well as 36 improvements and by the way we were able to fix no fewer than 185 Bugs.

6.1 release by next week!

After months of intense preparations and testing, we are getting ready to finally complete the development of the long delayed and eagerly awaited PubMan release 6.1.

The planned deployment of the new version within the live system is expected to take two and a half days, starting on Tuesday, September 14 in the evening.

In order to prevent our users from not being able to access their data for more than two long days, we plan to set up a ‘read only’ system during that time. ‘Read only’ means, you will be able to access as well as search or browse within your items, but it will not be possible to enter new data until the deployment of the new version is finished.

Maintenance operation by the GWDG

The GWDG informed us that they plan to perform the physical relocation of an important server board on Thursday, September 2. Because several server of the MPDL are located here, this operation will affect most of them.

For this reason, all PubMan services, especially the productive and the migration server will not be available for the entire day.

We are sorry for any inconveniences caused by this maintenance operation!

Migration-PubMan update

With regard to future migrations, we need to perform a major update of the PubMan version currently deployed on the migration server. The operation will include an update of the underlying core service as well.
For this reason, we have to shut down the migration server for an undetermined period of time starting Wednesday, August 4.
Unfortunately, working on imported test data and all testing activities have to be delayed until the server becomes available again.

We will inform you as soon as the new PubMan version is deployed.

Short reworking on Wednesday, August 4

Our hosting partner for PubMan – the GWDG in Göttingen – informed us that they have to perform some smaller reworking measures in connection with last week’s storage extension.
The necessary reload of the system will take place on Wednesday, August 4 at 9:00 am. During the restarting operations, PubMan again will not be available for a short period.
The whole procedure is expected to take about 10 Minutes – in case of technical difficulties it could last up to one hour.

Downtime on Thursday, July 29

We are planning to prepare our system for future developments and a growing number of users. To that purpose we will perform a storage extention for our live server on the upcoming Thursday, July 29. During the necessary operations, the live server will unfortunately not be available. The deployment of the new data storage is expected to take place between 8:30 and 11:00 am.
