PubMan on the CARPET catalogue

PubMan is now included in the CARPET catalogue of  electronic publishing software tools and services.

To support the efficient use of electronic tools and services for scientific publishing, the CARPET Project is building an information platform including a catalogue, as well as an ePublishing community,  to bring together developers, providers and users of ePublishing tools and services.

So, if this awoke your interest, feel free to visit the PubMan entry on CARPET, browse the catalogue for further useful tools or services, or even join the CARPET community!

Where PubMan lives

… did you know that the PubMan you know (http://pubman.mpdl.mpg.de/) is not the only one of its kind?
Currently the MPG PubMan has three more siblings:

National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), Tsukuba, Japan

Geo-Forschungs-Zentrum (GFZ), Potsdam, Germany

PEER Project Installation (http://www.peerproject.eu/)

And we can benefit from all these other installations by
… getting feedback on experiences in using/installing PubMan
… hints on existing bugs
… ideas for new features
… and manpower for further development.

Additionally we get more and more feedback on our mailing lists from people who are currently installing PubMan for evaluation.

PubMan unfortunately down (24.03.)

Due to server problems at our hosting partner, PubMan is unfortunately not running at the moment. We are currently trying to reach someone responsible there for trouble shooting.

We are really sorry for any inconveniences and do our best to find a fast solution.

As soon as the problems are fixed, you’ll get informed.

Successful Release 6.0

As announced, our long planned PubMan release is now finished and the system is running in usual parameters again. The new release comprised some quite complex and far reaching technical changes basically in the background of the System, which did not lead to any changes in the well known usage of the PubMan surface. This means that all modifications are of a pure technical kind and there will be no new features or functional changes the user should be aware of. Due to the complexity of the modifications it took us quite some time to make sure the system will continue to fit the demands of our users in a proper and reliable way.

Happy New Year 2010

A happy new year to all our PubMan users!

And the new year has already some good news in store:
By the end of 2009 we were able to complete the migration of our second institute – a warm welcome to the MPI for Gravitational Physics! The migration process was characterized by a close collaboration: The institute has been working consistently on their data so that the migration team of the MPDL was finally able to migrate more than 2300 datasets (a lot of them with fulltexts or supplementary material) from eDoc to PubMan. As of January the institute will begin with the submission of new publications of the ongoing year.

Looking ahead the next migration candidates are already in preparation for the productive use of PubMan. So we look forward to having a lively and successful cooperation with all interested institutes and wish you a good start into the new year!
